They started working in their yards to fulfill that dream. They didn\u2019t have enough capital. They participated in the training on indigenous chickens of NGOs. From there, they took advice and built a small-scale farm following the special housing system of domestic chickens.
\nZarina Khatun, who owns a farm, said that she was able to build the farm with the financial and technical support of the private organization DBS. Currently, she has 130 domestic chickens in her farm. Apart from meeting the needs of the family, she is also selling all these chickens in the market. Meanwhile, she has already sold a batch of chicken. Domestic chicken is sold at Tk 550-600 per kg in the market. She is making a lot of profit by selling these domestic chickens.
\nMd. Ruhul Amin Sardar, Livestock Officer of DBS, said that Currently, it is possible to rear domestic chickens with a relatively low investment and in a small area. As the price of domestic chicken is very high in the current market, the farmer is able to make more profit with less capital. A semi-commercial domestic poultry farm has been established in Meherpur Sadar Upazila with the support of Daridra Bimochon Shangstha (DBS) funded by the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) ensuring more than 120 special housing units. Already, many people have become self-reliant by rearing these domestic chickens, making a positive change in their economic status.Each farm is provided with night houses for large chickens, cages with creepers for young chickens, hatching nests, electric bulbs, disinfectants spray, signboards and information books.15 to 20 square feet night house for ten domestic chickens and provision of minimum 23-30 square feet (length 72 inches * width 46 inches) creeper cages for rearing, brooding and partial growing of 5 to 10 mother hens is done Inside the cage there are five chambers and a buffer area around the chambers.
