BNP’s central organizing secretary and former Deputy Minister for Land, Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, and his wife Sabina Yasmin have been acquitted in a case filed on charges of tax evasion and corruption.
On Sunday (June 22), Judge Md. Abul Kashem of Dhaka\u2019s Special Judge Court-1 delivered the verdict. Both Dulu and his wife were present in court during the pronouncement of the verdict. Following the acquittal, Dulu expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.<\/p>\n
Their lawyer, Borhan Uddin, said, \u201cThe court acquitted them as the charges could not be proven. We are satisfied with the verdict.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the case details, on April 19, 2007, the then Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mahfuza, filed the case against Dulu and his wife. The allegations stated that they had concealed information on assets worth Tk 5 crore 1 lakh 31 thousand 773 and possessed assets worth Tk 8 crore 44 lakh 37 thousand 108 beyond known sources of income.<\/p>\n
After investigation, on July 19 of the same year, the investigation officer, Assistant Director Nur Jahan, submitted the charge sheet against them.<\/p>\n
On August 29 of that year, the court framed charges against the accused and ordered the commencement of the trial. Later, Dulu filed a petition with the High Court seeking dismissal of the case. On July 18, 2012, the High Court accepted Dulu\u2019s petition and dismissed the case.<\/p>\n
However, the ACC appealed the High Court\u2019s decision. On November 2, 2015, the Appellate Division overturned the High Court\u2019s verdict and allowed the ACC\u2019s appeal. Following that, the trial proceedings resumed at Dhaka\u2019s Special Judge Court-1.<\/p>\n
After the completion of the proceedings, the court delivered its verdict today, acquitting both Dulu and his wife.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
