Frog Protection Day

Frogs are an integral part of the life and environment of the people of rural Bengal. In the rainy season, with the rain clouds, the frogs’ non-stop ‘Ghangar Ghang’ or the call of Kolabang in the shallow water of the paddy field as soon as evening falls এক is still a familiar phenomenon in rural Bengal. Frogs, as they appear in the social life, art literature, proverbs and sayings of Bengalis, regularly appear in daily conversations, for example. The frog’s cold, the coop’s frog, the frog’s umbrella — the phrases we use every day. As a child, many people must have jumped into frogs while kneeling in school sports competitions with their hands under their knees and their ears.

Do you understand the reason why there is so much talk about frogs? The last Saturday of April is celebrated every year as ‘World Frog Protection Day’. As such, today is Saturday, April 25, that day.

Good things were said about frogs. But is the animal really good nowadays? According to a 2015 survey by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are 49 species of frogs in Bangladesh. According to the study’s Red List, 10 species of frogs are endangered. This year’s Frog Day should be a pledge to contribute to the protection of frogs, not the extinction of eco-friendly frogs.
