Committee to investigate irregularities in Rokeya University project
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formed an inquiry committee into allegations of irregularities in the project work of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.
The three-member committee was formed by convening UGC member Professor Muhammad Alamgir on Thursday. The other two members of the committee are UGC Director (Planning and Development) Ferdous Zaman and Additional Director Durga Rani Sarkar (Member Secretary).
Regarding the formation of the committee, the UGC office said that the building is being constructed without the approval of the appropriate authorities by changing the design (drawing and design) approved in the DPP (Development Project Proposal) of the project titled ‘Special Development of Begum Rokeya University’. Apart from this, money has been spent outside the government rules on some issues which are not approved in the DPP of the project. This committee has been constituted for on-the-spot inspection to check the irregularities in these expenditure.
Committee member and UGC director Ferdous Zaman told Prothom Alo that at a recent meeting on university projects, Education Minister Dipu Moni herself mentioned irregularities in the Begum Rokeya University project and directed an inquiry into the matter. This committee has been formed in its light. The committee members will go to Rangpur next week to investigate.
