Meherpur Correspondent: District Awami League distributed sweets to Meherpur 1 Constituency Member of Parliament Professor Farhad Hossain for taking oath as a member of the Council of Ministers. After taking the oath on Thursday evening, sweets were distributed among the activists and supporters at the district Awami League head office in the city. At this time, party leaders watched the live broadcast of the swearing-in ceremony on television. After the swearing-in ceremony, sweets were distributed among the party workers and supporters present in the office. District Awami League Joint General Secretary Advocate Ibrahim Shaheen, Municipal Awami League President Iqbal Hossain Bulbul, Barbazar Traders Association General Secretary, Aminul Islam Khokon and other ward leaders were present. The leaders also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving her full ministry. Later, sweets were distributed among the surrounding businesses and common people.

A new cabinet of 36 members has been formed for the 12th National Parliament. Farhad Hossain got the responsibility of Minister of Public Administration Ministry. Before this he was the State Minister of the same Ministry.

Professor Farhad Hossain was elected Member of Parliament after winning a large number of votes in Meherpur-1 (Sadar and Mujibnagar) constituencies. He participated in the 12th National Parliament election after receiving the party nomination of Awami League for the third time in a row.

Farhad Hossain was born on June 5, 1972 in Bospara area of Meherpur Sadar Upazila of Meherpur district in a noble political family. His father Sohiuddin Biswas was a close companion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was the founding president of Meherpur District Awami League and one of the main organizers of the Bangladesh Independence War. He was MNA in 1970, MCA in 1972 and MP from Kushtia-5 (Meherpur, Gangni, Mujib Nagar) in 1973. Bangabandhu first declared 61 districts including Meherpur and in 1975 he selected Sohiuddin Biswas as the governor of Meherpur district. In 1986, he was a Member of Parliament from Meherpur-1 Constituency. Sohiuddin was awarded the country’s highest freedom award (posthumously) in 2022 for his exemplary contribution to the Liberation War.

Farhad Hossain studied from BL College, Dhaka University. He is the president of Meherpur District Awami League. In 2014, he won the Meherpur-1 seat with the boat symbol. After winning in 2018, he took charge as the State Minister of Public Administration Ministry of Bangladesh Government. In the 12th national parliament election, he participated in the election after receiving the nomination of Awami League and won by a huge margin.
