Tarique’s Return Soon, Annie Confirms Preparations

“There’s no legal hurdle to his return. We’re working on all necessary preparations,” Annie said in response to a query about Tarique Rahman’s homecoming.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will be returning home very soon, said party Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie. He said that preparations for his arrival are being taken not only within the party but also at the national level.

He said these things at the ‘Meet the Press’ program organized at Dhaka Reporters Unity today, Thursday (June 26).

Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said, ‘There is no obstacle to Tarique Rahman’s return to the country. However, preparations are needed for his arrival. We are making those preparations. He is returning very soon. We are not only making preparations from the party side but also nationally to welcome him. For this, everyone’s cooperation is needed.’

Responding to a question whether there is any legal obstacle to Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, Annie said, ‘There is no legal problem. We are making all kinds of preparations.’

Highlighting the need for national elections, the BNP leader said, ‘It has been almost a year, and unrest is increasing in the country. There is no foreign investment, remittance flow is decreasing, prices of daily necessities are increasing. We are seeing all this very clearly in reality – the common people are being affected. Businessmen are not showing interest in investing. Without an elected government, foreigners are not showing interest in investing. The law and order situation is also deteriorating.

He said that only an elected government can play an effective role in dealing with this problem.

If BNP comes to power, initiatives will be taken to revive the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) – improve relations with neighboring countries, Annie said.

He also said that if BNP comes to power, a zero tolerance policy will be adopted against corruption.
