Audit Flags 977 Sites Named After Hasina Family; Most Renamed
Controversial List of 977 Hasina-Named Projects Revealed, Ranging from Military Bases to Universities.
Hundreds of state-funded infrastructures, facilities, and institutions named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and other family members are being renamed across Bangladesh.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) announced that most of the 977 such sites have already been rebranded, with the remainder currently undergoing changes.
These sites, built during the Awami League’s 15-and-a-half-year rule, span a wide range of sectors — including army cantonments, airbases, naval ships, mega bridges, roads, schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, research centers, and various other public buildings.
Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power on August 5 last year amid a mass uprising, after which she reportedly fled to India.
Since the interim government assumed control, it has systematically removed names linked to the Hasina family and senior Awami League leaders from official institutions nationwide.
