Meherpur Correspondent: Migratory birds are buzzing in the natural beauty of padmabil water body in Mailmari village of Gangni upazila of Meherpur. Nature and bird lovers are fascinated by the flock of migratory birds that come in early winter. However, as most of the areas of the bill are filled with debris, the perimeter of the water body is decreasing, thereby hindering the movement of birds.

Later, in the face of resistance from local residents, the movement of bird hunters decreased, and the presence of migratory birds increased in the last three years. Along with the migratory birds, the water and land area of Padmabil is now a sanctuary for various species of birds including pankauri, buck, mallard, mudcreeper, dahuk, snail shell. The groups of these birds fascinate the locals and visitors.

Local residents said that once many lotus flowers bloomed in this bill but now they do not bloom anymore. Because most of the areas of the bill are filled with rubbish. As a result, the birds do not get much water. They claim that if the government arranges to reform the bill, then the bill will bloom again and the birds will also get a better environment.

Migratory birds maintain ecological balance by eating harmful insects and their droppings increase soil fertility. Birds come here from thousands of miles away. It is our responsibility to sustain them. Ensuring that migratory birds can roam safely is the responsibility of the government, as well as the responsibility of citizens. Killing of birds or wild animals is punishable by imprisonment. This official of the administration said that everyone needs to make an effort to increase the number of migratory birds in Meherpur.
