Fazlul Haque Montu: Historical Mujibnagar Day was celebrated on April 17 at Amrakanan in Meherpur through various programs. Mujibnagar Upazila Executive Officer UNO Khairul Islam and Mujibnagar Thana Officer-in-Charge OC Ujjal Kumar Dutta started the day by hoisting the national flag in front of the Mujibnagar Memorial at 6 o’clock on Wednesday. The main formalities discussion meeting started at 10 am.
Central and local leaders participated in the discussion on the historic Mujibnagar Day.
Bangladesh Awami League President Council member Kazi Zafar Ullah said that Bangladesh was recognized by the international community through the oath of the first government in Mujibnagar on April 17, 1971. Addressing the chief guest, he further said that Mujibnagar Day is a matter of historical importance, but it is a matter of great regret that there is no nationwide initiative to celebrate the day. Therefore, he drew the attention of the Minister of Liberation War to take measures to observe the day at district and upazila level from next year.

In the president’s speech, Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim said, “We celebrate the day from our spirit and the values of the liberation war. Let this day be an oath to resist the anti-independence non-communal forces.” He pointed to the BNP Jamaat to resist those who want to hand over non-communal Bangladesh to communal forces.
They said these things at the Mujibnagar Day discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Awami League at the historic Mujibnagar Amrakanan in Meherpur on Wednesday afternoon.
On the same stage, Awami League general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif accused BNP of destroying the history of liberation war and said that BNP as Ziaur Rahman’s party has no right to talk about liberation war. Those who do not believe in April 17 cannot be people of liberation war. He called Ziaur Rahman a Pakistani agent.

Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain was the special speaker on the occasion, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was the guest of honor. Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, son of Home, Agriculture and Rehabilitation Minister of the first government AHM Kamruzzaman, daughter of the first Prime Minister Taj Uddin Ahmed, State Minister for Child and Women Affairs Simin Hossain Rimi, Awami League Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain were special guests. The special speaker was Dr. Abu Saleh Mohammad Nazmul Haque Sagar, Member of Parliament for Meherpur-2 Constituency, District A-League General Secretary MA Khalek, Member of Bangladesh Awami League Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi, Adv. Amirul Alam Milan, Parveen Zaman Kalpana and Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee. Central and local leaders of Awami League were present.
Earlier, ministers, government officials and Awami League leaders laid wreaths at the Mujibnagar memorial at 9:30 am. Awami League leaders hoisted national and party flags after laying wreaths. This was followed by a guard of honor and parade. The parade of Police, BGB, Anchar, BNCC, Girl’s Guide and students of various educational institutions enthralled thousands of people present.
In the second phase, the discussion meeting was held at the Sheikh Hasina stage. At the end of the discussion, the Bangladesh Ansar-VDP orchestra team performed a ballad called “Sonali Swapner Desh”. Where the development activities of the government are highlighted.
The whole program was organized in a grand manner jointly by Ministry of Liberation War and Meherpur District Administration. From the previous day, various colorful festoons, installation of arches, lighting decorations were done all over the Mujibnagar complex. Famous artistes of the country will perform music in a wonderful cultural program in the evening.
